So as I mentioned on the last post, we had a hectic weekend as the rush continued to Sunday lunch where we were full also. We really could do with an on-call waitress, someone that we can call a bit last minute to properly take advantage of unexpected busy times that I have just described. We turned down quite a few tables that we probably could have managed had we had some help, because when we are full with just the two of us working, it’s not with all that many people.
This may be resolved fairly soon as an English girl has approached us for work this summer. She is moving out to Vernet to be with her partner, so she will be full-time here in Vernet and will be living just down the hill a bit. She speaks good French. Our other waitress may approach us to come back, but we shall have to see what her situation is. She has no address any longer in Vernet and she may want to take off again next winter and the attraction of the other girl is that she will be available through the winter for the odd busy moment. We don’t want to be seen to be only employing Brits, of-course, but noone else suitable has approached us. One guy came and asked for a job, but he had 20 years in the business and knew everything……I didn’ really take to him…
We are planning a 10 day break at the end of next month to fully repose before the season starts. Also we are having a wall knocked down in the house, so feel it’s best to be away. Last year we took a break in May, which was lovely, but perhaps a bit foolhardy as there are quite a few people around at that time.
Back to the present, though, we lose a night off this week as Valentines night falls on our day off, so have to open for all the romantics! Boo!
