Well, we had a lovely week off in Chamonix, lovely friends, nice food and some great weather and skiing – what more can you ask for? So we got back, the required building work had been done in our absence, as planned, we didn’t manage to lose the cat as we took her with us and we changed the menus as planned – in short, everything going like clockwork. Our new waitress started…at last!! Some help and someone else to do the washing-up, and I can finally dedicate myself to serving up the best food I can….and then she quit. It took just 3 days for her to decide that working nights is not for her and that she hasn’t the required stamina. I guess we must just be used to it – I mean, I know it’s hard, but where for us it’s normal, it seems to be a real shock to the system for others. We are in our little bubble of restaurant-ness.
Anyway, I’m a bit gutted, it’s a fair amount of effort required behind recruiting someone, declaring them and then doing all the paperwork, not to mention training them because we paid her to come in when not needed to train her up. However, what is worse is the time lost in getting someone to work the summer. We offered the job to our old waitress, but she has started a training scheme in paint effects. Different. But she did say that she would like to do some work part-time, however when we floated the idea of the two of them sharing the job, she seemed a bit shocked that she wouldn’t get any time off ….it was her suggestion…. Anyway, we are back to square one and shall be launching a recruitment drive toot sweet. *sigh*
